Tracey Berkowitz, 15, a self-described normal girl, loses her 9-year old brother, Sonny. In flashbacks and fragments, we meet her overbearing parents and the sweet, clueless Sonny. We watch Tracey navigate high school, friendless, picked on and teased. She develops a thing for Billy Zero, a new student, imagining he's her boyfriend. We see the day she loses Sonny and we watch her try to find him. In bits and pieces, we see what leads up to her riding in the back of a city bus wrapped in a shower curtain. Coming of age, or just surviving?

"fragments" is definitely the key word with this movie, describing both the presentation of things, the mindset of the titular character, and how I (and I'm sure many others no doubt) feel about this movie. The Tracey Fragments is more like an exercise in editing or an experience than a movie. The tone, mood, and atmosphere that are created are a huge part of things, and I really liked them. The artsy style and editing add to these things, but they end up taking over, and become a big distraction. Toning down the split screen stuff would have made for less tediousness, unless that was part of the filmmaker's point. The performances are good, and the music is nice, and I have to give some props for creativity and ambition, but this movie was a little too out there. I'm not sure of it's exact place, but this film ranks pretty high on my list of the most out there, off-the-wall, and mind-boggling films I've ever seen, which isn't necessarily a good thing or a bad one. There's nothing wrong with style and experimentation, which is why this film isn't getting a lower grade, but the over usage of said things is what keeps it from getting anything higher.

This movie actually blew my mind. With some of the most overwhelming artistic elements I have seen in a film this movie can only help but be a jaw dropper as the entire film except for select parts are edited in the style of a comic strip where there are different panels on the screen and different viewpoints displaying what we can only speculate as to the source. My favourite part of this movie was definitely the editing which took this 500,000 dollar movie 250,000 dollars over budget but regardless it achieved what it strove to create. Also Ellen Page who is one of my favourite actresses at the moment is brilliant in this movie as she always is and is perfect for the role of Tracey as she has the innocent body type and look but can portray the hard headed and tough girl as well. What was really weak in this movie was the story, as it is as fragmented as the editing, in some parts you can only wonder how the hell they got to this point but part of me believes this to be a companion to the subtext of the film but for me it is either way too much or just weak writing.

"Run Lola Run" is the firt movie that came to my mind. "Paranoid Park" somehow too. I know that there are others, but can´t remember right away. I know there are a lot of non linear movies, but that fragmentary, I just can´t point out any. The movie runs exactly as our mind: a constant in and out of thoughts, fellings, memories and made up facts. Fragments that are part of many stories and end up in a single one. Messy. If there is a truth, it´s hided somewhere. If you can´t follow Tracey´s mind (it can be tiresome sometimes), check this unplugged version: Tracey Refragmented It´s also interesting , but not the same type of amazed confusing "experience" the film itself can offer.

What a hot mess this movie was. I was only wanting to see it because it had Ellen Page in it. I am glad I watched it for that fact, because I still think her acting was great. But the movie itself was unwatchable. The split screens, then jumping from one scene to another, never really fully grasping the concept of what was going on. It leaves you not knowing exactly what happened. Watch it for Ellen Page's performance if you are a fan, but besides that, no way would I recommend this movie to anyone.

I watched this movie late at night in an air-conditioned room, so all the right emotions came out just perfectly while watching it. You may think that the ending is lacking, but that's the beauty of it. Plus, you just don't want it to end, but can't imagine it any other way. The
